Again I will reiterate.
Context is important. Teenagers (and secret folks in fandoms) mostly like to keep their communities separate.
Because often family lurks in areas like Facebook. Having been on social media since about 2004 (livejournal counts), it's been interesting looking at how different communities interact on different networks.
That's very much to do with the people that joined. Take for example Tumblr v Facebook. Both networks have communities on there.
But folks who joined on Tumblr defininatley didn't want to publish their fannish pursuits to their families. Whereas Facebook did have groups, but there also was an older crowd.
