@blkstarseed It has also been very obnoxious to poor people and disabled people who try to come here. I've seen such snobbery about tech. I literally know some people who ONLY used Twitter on their phone. People who are disabled, in and out of hospitals, etc aren't able to migrate so easily.

Tech difficulties ARE a barrier, even if it's easy for the "native users" of Mastadon.

The answer to "tech barriers" I've seen angered me. Saying "it's a copout" and an "excuse" for people to not migrate

@blkstarseed I saw somebody say people "can easily learn Mastadon if they can use X software" -- lol I had never heard of X software myself.

There's a big assumption that everyone here is academic and tech-savvy and that's how it SHOULD be.

I am not keen on spaces that laugh and say "well if they can't figure things out, they're not the ones we want here."

It seems that's what a lot of the "older" users of Mastadon feel about the influx of diverse users.

@MelonDC @blkstarseed@anarchism.space There is some truth to that, and it applies to tech communities as a whole (see also Linux/BSD culture) but there are definitely people that don't see it that way on the fedi, and you and your friends are 100% to be welcomed to the fediverse and supported.
