Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup. Proposed new stadiums there are the Roshn Stadium, made up of “crystal shard-like” pieces that glow at night, the Neom Stadium, 350 metres above ground in the Gulf State’s planned skyscraper-height megacity. Also an arena with a roof made from acacia tree bark; one perched on a cliff edge with a large retractable wall opening out to the view; and another surrounded by a multicolour exterior meant to evoke “the ripple effect of a Mexican wave”.
