My spouse has been running Sandwich.Net and the associated IRC server since 1997. There are only a few times where he has had to deny service due to a violation of the Terms of Service. When we talk about operational procedures, my role as project manager and senior customer support representative is to give him the advice he needs to feel comfortable in how he conveys this kind of denial to the person. 1/
Yesterday, he denied service to someone who he felt in his "reasonable inference, [would intend] to harass, intimidate, threaten, or promote hatred against an individual or group". It's not a lot and surely the former customer will find somewhere else where they get services because of course other service providers may be okay with that kind of thing.
But not Sandwich.Net. 2/2
@trishalynn I used to moderate a motorsport forum, and you both have my deepest admiration.
@trishalynn There was a lot of home team nonsense but also so many bad faith people it could be exhausting. It sucked the life out of what should be a fun thing.
