I keep telling would-be birdsite refugees that the platform they want is right here. It's a better experience in every way, and they would have total control if they wished.

And yet big tech platforms are so adhesive they can't drag themselves away.

The most frustrating category of complaint is something like this:

"This one thing doesn't work the way I want it to, so the whole platform is a failure."

Someone once argued here that the real reason is the Fedi doesn't offer the same network effect.

I think that's a decent hypothesis, and critics don't want to admit it because it's so fucking shallow.
