Better is the enemy of good part 1023: My aging PCI wifi card (some Realtek thing I bough in Maplins Southampton in 2007) was driving me nuts with its (relatively) slow speed, I'd get 2MB/s max out of it, more typically 800-1000KB/s, so I went shopping for an intel based chipset.

I found one that's a dual bluetooth wifi thing, for about 25 bucks. Not bad.

Of course it needs a free 9-pin USB port for the bluetooth side, so that's out, but wifi works from the PCIe 1x slot.

Win 10 loves it, 30MB/s YAY! Slackware linux doesn't see it. Boo. So it just needs a kernel update. No problem! Go up. to 5 LTS. This breaks my Nvidia card drivers, and I have to spend a while looking for a driver new enough to compile its modules against the kernel. Got there in the end, but what should have been a 15 minute job turns into most of the evening...
