Discovered an interesting thing with DD on my linux box while writing a bootable USB. If the size of the write is within cache capabiliy (say the OpenBSD image) it can show as finished in seconds however the buffer will go onto write for about a minute. A small gotcha.

I use iostat or the friendlier dstat to see if it's still writing.
