My great uncle was a rating on HMS Loyalty which fell victim to U-480 very late in the war, in the Channel. He survived, around half (including the Commander) did not. He wrote to the Archive people in Germany to learn about the submarine, but he died before the true fate of it was known, as it was mistekane for another until a mystery wreck was found in the late 90s...
