It’s interesting the tone shift between Mastodon and Twitter. (Forgive me those of you who don’t like to name it, but tbh I find that a bit Voldemort.) Twitter v chatty and relaxed, like hanging out with old friends - but with a tendency to get rude and take each other for granted, and always an open door to assholes crashing your party at will. Mastodon feels (at least to me, a mere 1 day in) formal and circumspect, as we make new friends, but blessedly no assholes in sight.

And it’s an interesting social experiment in its own right, watching people create and share new protocols. We saw it in the pandemic with new Zoom protocols instantly adopted, and seeing it here now.
