Keep the #fediverse weird. I'm fine with assholes as long as they don't harass people. But I also don't want it to be a suburbia where everybody is expected to have an IN THIS HOUSE, WE BELIEVE sign in their yard.

@wjmaggos Nate Silver said on twitter that Masto is a honeytrap for hall monitors, and it is both funny and unfortunately a bit true.

yes but that's changing. and it's completely understandable why that existed. with a small number of users, you had to find reasons to get people to check in. being a safe community space worked. you could ensure a certain type of conversation without assholes you couldn't find anywhere else. such a purpose let them survive. now we need servers that serve a different role, more like a home base for worldwide exploration. everything else but your personal timeline matters a lot less.

@wjmaggos I don't know, about four years ago it all got very vindictive with a lot of bullying going on.

@sullybiker

I've been here a while and I came through an instance that got blocked a lot. But the community was changing there too. IDK. I've seen a lot more trolls than hall monitors, but I hate that shit too. I'm a floater desperate to hear all sides, always have been. Maybe I've learned how to navigate the tribes well enough to have a better experience than most.

@wjmaggos Trolls are just internet weather really. Also there's no real Nazis on the Fediverse, most of them are just reactionaries doing it to get a rise, but I don't want to read it either.

I'm pretty live and let live and have a bit of a dislike of people telling me what to do.
