I love how often a new instance shows up on fedi, does a bunch of stupid shit and turns out to be run by some asshole on a power trip, and then just kinda fades away a few weeks later
@sullybiker wondering whether it's gonna result in fedi being much bigger but more fragmented or if everyone is gonna ultimately still be on a few of the biggest instances after these other people fade away

@nyx Nobody seems to be prepared for the very real possibility that this was the moment, and it has passed.

@sullybiker it's another outcome I've considered. it would be consistent with my overall pessimistic expectations that people will just move onto the next shitty corporate platform

@nyx I always like to look at the normies. Most of them don't care, and a lot have not really bought into the sky-is-falling crowd. Then you've got the cynics, who shouted it despite knowing better, but stayed on anyway.

@nyx And lets be honest, aside from a few idiots that announced their big tech departures, most people kept accounts. They'll go back. They're just waiting for the optics to be right.
