Putting a new spin on my favourite hobby (quitting smoking) by downloading an app this time

smoking

Bit of a blip today after I hit the 24 hour mark and I'm back at square one. However! I managed to sit with the craving for long enough to understand where it came from (a particular type of stress) and what it was actually for (a quick hit of something, not necessarily the cigarette). So I've bought some nicotine patches and am now another hour into quitting again.

I got through today fine, with pre-planning to stop myself end up in situations where I'd want to smoke.

It is a shame this app doesn't go more into other side effects like sleep pattern, headaches etc. I can definitely feel all that sort of stuff trying to even itself out.

It is alarming watching the money already pile up - remember the statistics reset noon yesterday so this is in addition to the first day.

This has been very stop and start but overall positive nicotine patches are a god send. I'm thinking maybe I need to take up juggling or something to fill in the lifestyle gap left by smoking

Longest streak so far and feeling good about it. Didn't take much effort this time. Excited to keep going

10 days in. Grateful for the page on the app that keeps you updated on the various symptoms as you work your way through recovery. For example, it takes 9 months for your lung hairs to properly grow back, which is why smokers cough persists for so long afterwards. I didn't know this in previous attempts and knowing it this time is a key motivator

2 weeks today! This week was a lot easier than last week in terms of cravings. Still struggling a lot with sleeping pattern and airways stuff (which is worse while my lungs have started clearing themselves out).

@nuala Stick with it. The habit is the hardest thing to break, also all the social triggers. Even now about 5 years later I still struggle with having a pint in the evening and craving a fag.

@sullybiker surprisingly I think the nicotine patches are the key with the social triggers for me. If you're not using them regularly, then you can replace having a cigarette with putting a patch on. Early days yet though

@nuala What's odd is I'm long past any physiological need, so it's just my brain being a tosser.
