When I read the social media doom and gloom about banking I remember that there are people still with attics full of bottled water and toilet paper because they lost their damn minds three year ago and stripped the shelves bare. People are panicky. Americans especially so.

Boomers on Facebook groups especially so.

@sullybiker If one keeps it in the laundry room, is that better or worse than the attic?

Asking for a friend.

@sullybiker Actually, I probably only have a hundred or so rolls, but it’s ok: I’m going to be driving past Costco in a few weeks.

@Flick Hope you can get lots of money in the mattress!

@sullybiker You mock, but my “they’re going to lock us down tomorrow” last-minute shopping trip resulted in a lettuce, a bottle of gin and a razor. Rural habits.

@sullybiker A few weeks later, I was selling eggs, flour and yeast in the village car park ;)

@Flick My slightly nutty survivalist neighbour was very upset that he was ready for anything but a "Goddamned Chinese virus" and seemed to be trying to figure out how he could shoot covid

@sullybiker I am so glad we don’t have the gun culture here. Me, I found being ready for getting snowed in and not wanting to have to drive to the shops because you’ve run out of something was pretty handy.

@Flick I've got used to it in a decade or so of being here. I only really started to think about it during Covid because people got a bit crazy. That said, nothing happened locally.

@Flick @sullybiker Apart from not going home or to town type things it was carry on as usual here, up and down to the Co op, there was a problem with home delivery, it became impossible to book one, for Asda or Morrisons, no idea how those who were managed it, I gave up, to be fair to the Co, over priced pain in the arse that they are etc, they did not do badly at all re goods available.

@HebrideanHecate @Flick I think we had one week where it was hard to find anything, then they bounced back pretty fast.

@sullybiker @HebrideanHecate Most things were ok, I think, but flour, eggs and yeast were a while getting back to normal. And loo roll.

@Flick @HebrideanHecate We didn't get the bog roll wars here, but you could not get bottled water in forever. This, coincidentally is one of the rainiest states in the USA.

@sullybiker @HebrideanHecate What really pissed me off were the photos a couple of weeks later of bins full of the stuff people had panic bought and then just not used, including stuff in tins ffs.
