@Flick indeed. The sheer amount of rain has caused the roots to pull straight out of the hillside. Seen this elsewhere, but not my own yard.
@nuala it seems alright. No leaks but will see what roofer says.
@feld It's dark, hard to tell. It fell quite gently and it's it's tall but not particularly thick. Will have to deal with it in the morning.
@MnemosyneSinger Easy to earn, harder to keep
@Alice It reminds me of the Japanese photographer that does a lot of this kind of composition. I love the strong colours. Are you out West?

Oscar Wilde: "Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing".
The Economist's expert: “The bottom line is that we have untold trillions of dollars riding on top of code developed by hobbyists” [on the xz vulnerability]
This looks like open source FUD, so here's a refute: 1) the sophistication required to sneak something into a so-called hobby project, 2) it failed, 3) it had to happen in the open, 4) think about how easy this is done in closed source

@feld The political wings of some groups often have dissonant messaging.
@alienghic When I lived on the Solent they'd have a tug on the bigger ships because the wind would move them about. There wasn't much to hit there, apart from Fawley oil terminal...but by the time they are up there they are on their own power and making good speed.
@alienghic I was going to add I will be surprised if these panamax ships are allowed on their own power now. A tug with a line fore and aft will be the norm for a while.
