Not typically fond of Vox, this however is very good:

I'm fortunate to have good insurance through my employer and yet I have still had some absolutely eye-watering bills.

Also using Sakura again had me forgetting how good it is for readability, especially colour support in Mutt.

Discussing all things windows and displays with @starbreaker@octodon.social made me fire up i3 on my desktop again. I had forgotten the joy of huge windows with minimal stuff in the way. So clear.

Apropos of Macs I still don't now how people get on with the really weird GUI and window management. I've never found it particularly intuitive.

We're at that time of year when nothing's open on campus.

It amuses me end that the SANS provided VM running Lubuntu has vastly superior font rendering to the Fedora 28 host it is running on.

I just cannot the fonts right in Fedora on my XPS 13; the terminal is fine but Firefox looks like complete shit. When I switch back to my work 'official' Macbook Pro it the difference is notable.

Part of it is the 9360's IPS screen, which is extremely bright and quite difficult to get fonts to 'pop' on. Hinting in particular does them no favours at all.

Endless practical advice coming from 24accessibility this year. Just read ‘I Threw Away my Mouse’ (inspired by Laura Carvajal) by Manuel Matuzović and it has so many examples of common issues and best-practice corrections for keyboard navigation.

To underline all lines starting with "CHAPTER" using equals-signs

g/^CHAPTER/t.\
s/./=/g

This duplicates each line (`t.`) and then changes each character to an equals-sign.

If anybody that enjoys Blade Runner hasn't seen the documentary 'Dangerous Days' I can strongly recommend it. It's a great companion to the film and you can see how special the project was to everybody involved.

Much as I love the XPS13, the display is way too bright. I don't notice until I look at other screens. It's very intense.

I have to say I do enjoy the sheer amount of art that's turned up in the federated timeline in the last couple of weeks. The variety is great to see.
