The Titanic H&G team have released what I believe is their final demo before Steam release of 'Project 401', which is their walkable Titanic model. It's in Unreal 4 and really is quite fantastic - now 50% of the vessel is modeled.

The problem isn't how good ChatGPT or the others are, the problem is how good people *think* it is.

Sort of surprised they didn't opt for KDE, as QT does well with this kind of environment, as seen on the default Pinebook Pro Manjaro image.

MNT did a really nice job with their Sway setup out of the box, and although they offer Gnome 3 as an option it's really intended to be used with something light like Sway, and it really looks great. Same with their rofi config. Minimalist but pretty.

One of the things about going minimalist on mobile computers is you en up having to solve problems a DE has already done for you. Is it worth the effort? I don't know. I really like I3/Sway but config is a *bear*, same with cwm. Sometimes I just think 'fuck it' and go back to a full DE, but then I feel dirty.

I had enough troubling discussions with tech people that believe that these language models think and we are within moments of sentient computers.

Many variations on “we are just like the machines; we read and speak statistically valid sentences”

Folks are quickly dismissing that turning your complex inside thoughts into words is usually an art that requires work and practice.

These models are great tools, but I feel the cringe creep up when folks bless these models with supernatural powers.

There used to be this really silly pride in high uptime metrics on servers. Those days are so fucking gone.

Crowdstrike have this scoreboard on their dash and it really games your desire to bring it down. If they added achievements I'd be fucked.

If you enjoy a bit of Shakespeare, do check out his version of Coriolanus, with Gerard Butler failing to be Gerard Butler (in the good way).

Quite enjoy the bonkers Ralph Fiennes 'The Menu' although very surprised just how close it is to Glass Onion in feel. It's a nice antidote to rich-assholes-in-a-nice-place though, which Glass Onion also enjoys a lot of.

I used to hate the hamster wheel of going through the job hunting process. It is a surprise just how little better it is on the other side of the equation.

A little bit of Winter clapback these last two days. Very cold mornings, but it gives way to mild highs later. There's talk of snow tomorrow. We will see..

Panic is a model macOS software company, the kind of thing Apple should be bending over backwards to attract to the platform. Untitled Goose Game is an incredibly good game that is a perfect fit for the Mac.

That Panic could not get Untitled Goose Game through App Review without getting jerked around over inane reasons is a damning indictment of the entire idea that App Review is a gatekeeper for quality, rather than a means of ideological control.
