So, in John Wick, the High Table is effectively a violent hotel franchise, have I got that right? Like Travelodge, but posh and infested with hitmen?

@arstechnica@mastodon.social so can Chrome -- who do I talk to about banning that?

Boltgun is good! It's refreshing to buy a game, for a reasonable price, on launch day, without any Early Access bollocks, and have it both work fine and be great. Turns out, it can be done! :-O

FBI guy: "Mr Musk, you're coming with us."
Musk: "Ha! My Praetorian Guard of Neurolink-enhanced commandoes will cover my escape!"

Given how central it is to their whole deal, it's galling that Plex's media player remains so resolutely shitty

We hear you saying that the organization is understaffed, and we’re committed to working on solutions to the problem that are creative, flexible, and most importantly do not involve hiring additional people.

@logoninternet@mastodon.social it's so good!! They're the perfect band to cover POTO, they have just the right sound.

I get unnecessarily annoyed when characters on TV send text messages without actually pressing send. You see them type it in close up, then get the whoosh noise while they just put their phone away.

@h_thoreson that's good, it's where the art comes in. good luck with it!

@h_thoreson iirc there's a passage in an old Nick Hornby novel where he posits that pop songs are puzzles that you want to listen to intensively until your brain 'solves' them -- at which point they can just go into the rotation -- which seems to track well with what you describe, but from the listener's perspective.

Kid's body: Oh wow, a new hair! Hair goes on top of the head! 😀

Teen's body: I rule at this! YOU get some hair, and YOU get some hair, and YOU get some hair! 😎

40yo's body: What? Oh. Uhhh... back of the earlobe? Fuck it, close enough... 😞

"That noise is what we called an 'alarm clock.' Back in the old days, it would make that noise every morning and force you to wake up, whether you were ready to or not."
"Eww! But, grandad, didn't that mean you were super tired?"
"Oh yes. That's why we used to immediately drink a big hot cup of drugs."
