@sean 8 dollars, Sean. I will verify you for 8 dollars.
@sean Are you now a millionaire?
A symptom of this are changes in moderation that seem to have come from *somewhere* when what has actually happened is a class hierarchy has formed. This is not great for small communities.
I'm talking about journalists using Twitter as a symbiotic source both for content and for networking. Buzzfeed was probably the best example.
@theauracle Some of the trolling I've seen has been pretty basic reactionary stuff. It is insecurity and mob dynamics playing off each other. These aren't legitimately hateful people, they're angry and confused kids that feel threatened their local space is getting colonized by those that rejected them.
@theauracle Well said.
There's something to be said about how people who gatekeep. They aren't simply content with obsessing over controlling others. They are also keen on maintaining a very exclusive circle and they insist on conflating their social circle with every single space they happy to occupy.
I cannot stress this enough: the Fediverse, Mastodon... hell, the internet writ large doesn't belong to you. Your niche, your space, your presence is yours. That and that alone belongs to you.
Nothing else.
@dick_turpin ..because they already have something that catered for them, and it's called Twitter.
@dick_turpin The problem is people being here for five minutes and behaving exactly like they did at the other place, and complaining it doesn't work the way they want. I just don't care and wish they would go away.
@dick_turpin You do get these mass waves of people all bleating the same talking points. It is what it is. What I'm less tolerant of is they bring that mentality here.
@dick_turpin Hysteria tends to be collective. People are also saying it is collapsing. It is not collapsing. It's a very strange place, Twitter.
@dick_turpin The level of hysteria about this is all quite ridiculous.
@vriska She's a maximalist, makes a great album, then makes a not-so-great one because she's chasing where the sales are. It's crazy.
@vriska My wife is a massive fan, and we sort of fought about it a little, because I think every single facet of her, from her appearance, her weight, her writing is focus-grouped to the nth degree and packaged and sold to people as 100% fresh farm organic produce and its BULLSHIT.
@vriska I have a lot of issues with modern Tay Tay. Most of them are around the fact that she is emblematic of the music industry.
@checkervest A skip
79F today. Sweating when I walked the dog. The clocks change tonight. I don't remember these kinds of temps in November, but we've had them (as a one-off) in December before. The weather has been odd, we went from highs of 80-90 right down to 50s and freezing mornings last month, now it's rebounded.
