@alienghic Although I *loved* my week in LA a few years ago, completely against my expectations.

media.sully.site/posts/2017/11

@alienghic I remember we got a PhD from SoCAL. Poor lad came in October. Said to me "Is it always like this?" "No, it gets much worse".

Mod rant about all of this

@eloisa A simple example is the rule about politics, people saying I WON"T CW THOSE BECAUSE IT'S IMPORTANT but not recognising that the mere sight of some of these things causes irritation and anxiety and we're not fucking here for that.

Mod rant about all of this

@eloisa I remember being aware of a feeling that people overused it, especially back in the beginning; in the way the presence of a tool ends to lead to be being used whether it is correct for the job or not.

But it costs nothing, really, and like a lot of practices one may not understand why it is used.

@alienghic I'm grateful I live somewhere that just doesn't get extreme weather. It would be extremely stressful.

Joke about food I don't like

@eloisa My kids eat silly amounts of it. I do not love it.

@swansinflight@mastodon.nz I knew what was coming. Clicked anyway, you magnificent bastard

@alienghic I feel sorry for those people that are just getting over the last one.

Although when I first came here someone CW'd a picture of a stick of celery, which I am sorry to admit amuses me to this day.

It's amazing to me just how much discussion there is around CW. I would not have thought this particularly controversial. Maybe it's a sign I've been here long enough not to think about it that much.

journa gossip

@rabbithearth@weirder.earth @researchfairy Self-hosted instances have some advantages in this respect - we don't have that corporate pressure to deliver and the associated fear of making anybody wait.

For most instances it is just a matter of 'Sorry the queue is really large and now I have to go and have a sandwich'.

@jerry Jerry DON'T GIVE A TIME THE GODS WILL SMITE YOU

journa gossip

@rabbithearth@weirder.earth @researchfairy The most charitable explanation is that they got overwhelmed and didn't look. They should spend some of that cash on more staffing.

Man, @TechUr disappeared just as things got fruity. He would love this, he'd rage on stream for hours on end about it I'm sure.

@quon@indiepocalypse.social They need to be quiet and give it time, rather than running in and immediately being boorish which they have thus far done *constantly*. That said, they were absolutely catered for on corporate media; they had the connects and they had real influence, so of course they swing it about here.
