Followed the MS Estonia tragedy a while ago, read the report, all the conspiracy theories. Interested to see they raised the bow ramp In Summer, but *most* interestingly someone had opened it from its previously partially closed position. This could only be for easier access to the car deck, to get something big in, or - intriguingly - out.

@Gelatinousrube For me his biggest flaw is really going off when something clearly hits a nerve. It's as if he's never followed his own advice. But as you say he has a humanity about it which is easy to like.

@Gelatinousrube I go back and forth on Sam. He has said some ostensibly really stupid stuff, but on a longer timeline he tends to make sense. His whole breakdown of his social media departure was brilliant.

@Gelatinousrube An old friend is a very traditional leftist, and he told me he gave up on it because every piece of work got destroyed by the 'what about group x' brigade. He said they couldn't even get a fucking wall painted without talking about how to correctly decolonize the paint.

@Gelatinousrube I think people were different. Society was more stratified, much less social safety nets so things like family became absolutely necessary. What scares me most is people's complete detachment from any kind of reality, either moral or physical. It's all feels.

@KristinKim Isn't it terrible that you need to do that? I tend to carry mine around between work and home. Got a new remote work laptop recently and I can no longer seamlessly switch :(

I don't know what it is about the Bluetooth stack on Apple devices, but once they pair with something it is like fucking superglue, it just won't pair with anything else until you clear the internal pairing DB.
