I've taken the DSLR with me to Vegas, and will probably stick with the 50mm 1.8. I also have my trusty 28-135 if I want something longer but honestly the 50mm gets much nicer colour and contrast. #photography.
Whatever your economic standpoint, if you want to argue large tax rebates and incentives attract employees (and therefore tax payers) you can make the same argument for stimulus of what you have. You don't need and Amazon or other Fortune 500 to find an excuse to pump billlons of dollars into your city.
