A week of interviewing staff. I honestly hate it. You can't employ all of them. Some tech jobs get a huge slice of candidates smack in the middle of the bell curve and it comes down to basically whether you like them, then how much more you liked them over the others.

Thanks Gmail for shuffling a read message to the top of the list and suggesting I should reply to it.

It's like an AI Walter Peck. Just fuck off.

Revived my son's dead XPS 13 after finding a spare power supply (weak point on the XPS) at work. I was using the USB-C port briefly but on the earlier XPS 13 this is very flaky and I don't think it could do the amps for the I7 in it. Now it's singing along nicely, and he's thrilled to be painting in 3D again.

It's so mad to think we're basically into Spring. Least snowfall since records began in PGH, I think over 100 years, something like fractions of an inch in February.

I don't like Winter at all but I also like the comfort of feeling that it still exists outside of the period on a calendar.

I at last got the script I cribbed off the Masto issues page working (avatar cleanup) meaning I can procrastinate about the V4 upgrade again. Being uncharitable I think this should have been in from the start. Having ~30GB of useless image files is kind of silly.

Whenever I see the Windows 'Just a moment' message I keep expecting it to report a fault on the AE35 Antenna

Masto survived the Twitter wave. Can it survive the VC money? This will be interesting. Ideals get tested where the rubber meets the road.

Radiology marathon complete for another six months. Not being able to eat anything for so long does my temper no good at all...

One year ago to the hour. Leaving a hectic AMS on a rebooked flight to Atlanta. My day started at 6am and I would be home almost 24hrs later due to delays, snowstorms, Ukraine war, and problems with baggage handlers.

Choosing a Mastodon instance is easy once you understand each instance’s values, customs, belief systems, and inter-instance alliances and feuds dating back 1,000 years.

Sure, I'll just vomit these packages all over your machine. Good luck sorting it out, admin.

Pinning being ignored by default in unattended-upgrades sure is a nice surprise

So much breakage happens this way and you just end up missing Slackware

We have some GPU compute that I have to manage outside config management because they're so fussy. There's a weird thing I've found absolutely consistent in package managers, be it deb or RPM, and it is that if you have multiple sources you will at some point get a shit sandwich in your dependency graph. Without fail.
