Cancer cells have very high rates of uptake (they metabolise aggressively) thus making this test useful for tumour detection.

Routine PET scan today for surveillance purposes.I get a radioactive glucose solution injected, wait an hour, then spend 45 minutes in the scanner (a big white donut that looks like something from ST:TNG) and this obtains a heat map of glucose uptake.
