One of the things that changed on Birdsite around 2010-12 was the formation of cliques.

These were structures of taste-makers and famous people which once formed tended to start crusading. It's the dominant culture today, and I've already seen it here.

There's something to be said about how people who gatekeep. They aren't simply content with obsessing over controlling others. They are also keen on maintaining a very exclusive circle and they insist on conflating their social circle with every single space they happy to occupy.

I cannot stress this enough: the Fediverse, Mastodon... hell, the internet writ large doesn't belong to you. Your niche, your space, your presence is yours. That and that alone belongs to you.

79F today. Sweating when I walked the dog. The clocks change tonight. I don't remember these kinds of temps in November, but we've had them (as a one-off) in December before. The weather has been odd, we went from highs of 80-90 right down to 50s and freezing mornings last month, now it's rebounded.

Learning about Dresden's S-Bahn network and envious of it. Mass transit like that would make life very easy in a lot of places.

With the cloud cover we get in SWPA the mornings can be very gloomy. It turns the bed into glue.

0700 and it's still black outside. I don't love the clock changes but I like this even less.

The lady next door always has these big lanterns for trick or treat.

Trick or treat night so of course it's chucking it down. The kids are not deterred.

It might be helpful to newcomers to remember the fediverse runs at a slightly different speed to Twitter. Think a series of small connected communities rather than a giant stadium with everyone yelling.
