Zwift is a lot of fun, but it's also a real bucket of cold water in terms of how horribly unfit I am. Like most online experiences, you might think you're doing well until you realize your place on the bell curve is nowhere near you'd like it to be.

Stumbled on a twitch channel of an attractive Scottish girl assembling Ikea furniture, with 100 thirsty men in chat alternating between being her dad and hiding said thirst. The internet is so fucking weird.

More snow today. The last lot has not melted as it hasn't been above freezing all week.

My 2004 Citizen Ecodrive watch finally stopped working. Quite sentimental about that thing. Went through a lot in my life.

Epic rock art at Reteti Elephant Sanctuary in Samburu. It was painted by the famous French graffiti artist, Youri Cansell. It is a tribute to the elephants that now call Namunyak home after being almost completely extinct in this area in the 1970s.

It uses IMDb's data, so there's no secret insider magic, but it's a very simple, no-nonsense site that doesn't try to offer fake estimates, or blather on about the show so far before admitting they don't have a clue. =:)

Because the fediverse doesn't meet my particular idea of a utopia, I consider its failure an inevitability.

In this essay

I think that's a decent hypothesis, and critics don't want to admit it because it's so fucking shallow.

The most frustrating category of complaint is something like this:

"This one thing doesn't work the way I want it to, so the whole platform is a failure."

I keep telling would-be birdsite refugees that the platform they want is right here. It's a better experience in every way, and they would have total control if they wished.

And yet big tech platforms are so adhesive they can't drag themselves away.
